U.S. dollar rises in late trading

NEW YORK, July 24, 2019 (BSS/Xinhua) – The U.S. dollar rallied in late
trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was
up 0.46 percent at 97.7119 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

The British pound was under pressure after Boris Johnson was elected leader
of the ruling Conservative party on Tuesday.

The election has set a path for Johnson to become British prime minister,
causing broad concerns that he would push forward a no-deal Brexit.

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1149 U.S. dollars from 1.1211
dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.2441 dollars
from 1.2481 dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar fell to
0.7002 dollar from 0.7035 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 108.26 Japanese yen, higher than 107.87 Japanese yen
of the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.9855 Swiss franc from
0.9816 Swiss franc, and it was up to 1.3135 Canadian dollars from 1.3112
Canadian dollars.
