Rapist Imam placed on remand
DHAKA, July 23, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed an Imam accused of raping several women and children threatening them with retribution of Jinns, on remand for a day.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masud Ur Rahman passed the order as police produced Idris Ahmed, 42, before his court and prayed for a 10-day remand.
Acting on a complaint made by an alleged victim, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-1 arrested the fraud on July 21 and arrested Idris from Syednagar area under Dhakhinkhan Police Station in the capital. Police found videos of his heinous crime on his mobile phone.
In a press briefing on July 22, RAB-1 commander Lt Colonel Sarwar Bin Kashem said apart from working as an Imam at a local mosque, Idris used to teach at a Dhakhinkhan Madrasa.
“He raped many women and teenage girls, threatening them with vengeance of Jinns, if they revealed their suffering to anyone else,” the RAB official said.
