Drug trader killed in Meherpur gunfight

MEHERPUR, July 23, 2019 (BSS) – A suspected drug trader was killed in a
gunfight between two groups of drug traders at Mathabhanga crossing in
Govipur village under Sadar upazila of the district early hours today.

The deceased was identified as Hamidul Islam, 30, son of Aroj Ali of
Buripota village in Sadar upazila.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station Shah Dara Khan said
on information that two groups of drug traders were trading gunshots, a team
of police went to Mathabhanga crossing around 3am.

They found bullet-hit body of Hamidul on the spot, he said, adding that the
“gunfight” might have taken place over the share of drug.

Hamidul was wanted in a dozen cases filed with Sadar police station, OC
said.

The body of Hamidul sent to Meherpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police also recovered a shooter gun, two bullets and 12 bottles of
Phensidyl from the spot, the OC added.
