5828 multimedia classrooms installed in Rajshahi division
RAJSHAHI, July 22, 2019 (BSS)- More than 5,828 multimedia classrooms were installed in
educational institutions in all eight districts under Rajshahi division opening up a new door of
expediting the process of modernization in education system.
“We have established the digital classrooms in 484 colleges, 2,415 secondary schools and 2,929
primary schools in the division till June last,” said Nur-Ur-Rahman, Commissioner of Rajshahi
division.
Besides, Sheikh Russell Digital Laboratories were established in 102 colleges, 375 secondary
schools and 12 primary schools in order to boosting students’ empowerment through using of
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as well as internet.
Rahman said students attention to education has started boosting amidst addition of ICT as
well as installation of multimedia in classrooms because the students of such types of schools
have got the scopes of seeing and understanding their topics on big projection screen.
He added that education support is one of the 10 special initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina. Utmost emphasis was given to keep all the multimedia classrooms and other digital
devices functional round the year so that the students can derive total benefits of those.
At present, some 706 upazila-based secondary schools are using multimedia classrooms in
Rajshahi district. “We are hastening teaching-learning privileges side by side with preparing
the teachers through imparting them with need-based training in these schools,” said Nasir
Uddin, District Education Officer.
“We enjoy our classes with multimedia projection. We can see our topics on big screen. So, we
can understand the subject-matters through projection easily than that of reading books,” said
Tasnuva, a student of class eight in Shaheed Nader Ali Girls School and College at Baneshwar
under Puthiya Upazila. Jhumur of class nine and Nusrat and Sadia of class ten echoed the same.
Ruhul Amin, Principal of the institution, said: “We have started using ICT in 2016. Since
then, students attendance in the class became hundred percent. All the students appear in
classes spontaneously. Teaching-learning process becomes easy”.
A significant change has started taking place in education sector by dint of successful
promotion of digital technology benefiting teachers, students and others concerned in the
region, he added.
More than 13.91 lakh primary students were brought under sub-stipend programme in the
division. 717 underprivileged were given education allowance under Reaching Out of School
Children project. Physically challenged students were given assistive devices worth Taka 33.50
lakh.
More than 1.76 lakh students were brought under school feeding programme. Pre-primary classes
have been launched in all schools for the age of under six babies. Each of the schools is given
Taka 5,000 annually to facilitate babies to flourish their latent talents with developing their
physical and mental growth.
Prof Saidur Rahman Khan, former Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University, said the role of
teachers is very vital to make the ICT for education programme a total success. Focus of the
programme is to equip teachers with IT knowledge so that they can prepare multimedia teaching
materials for the students.
Prof Rahman said education has become a technology-based version to adapt the rapidly changing
21 century. This programme in Bangladesh will make us more prepared to tap the changes into
good.
“Interactive multimedia classrooms have introduced a new dimension to the education system of
Bangladesh. Teachers and educational officers can make the dimension more interactive through
the process,” he added.
He said the teachers are working to promote multimedia classrooms (MMC), digital content,
model content, student portal, e-book, MMC monitoring application, daisy talking book, digital
brail and literacy and numeracy learning.
