DHAKA, July 21, 2019 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the
Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism today asked the Biman Bangladesh to
inform the parliamentary watchdog about making major purchase or purchase
related deal.

The committee came up with the call at its fifth meeting at Sangsad Bhaban
here with its Chairman R. AM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury in the chair, said a
press release.

Committee members State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub
Ali, Md Aslamul Haque, Tanveer Imam, Anwar Hossain Khan and Syeda Rubina
Akter attended the meeting.

The parliamentary watchdog suggested inquiring into the unequal agreement
on hiring defective aircraft from Egypt to Biman Bangladesh.

The committee was informed that one of the two defective Egypt Aircrafts,
which were hired from Egypt, has already been returned back to Egypt which
saves about Taka 5.5 crore per month while another aircraft is underway to
give return back.

It decided to give 17 percent discount on online ticket purchasing to the
first 17 customers every month from March 2020 to March 2021 on the occasion
of the ‘Mujib Year’, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to be celebrated 2020.

The committee recommended the Biman to present a full report on parts,
which were purchased in the last 10 years, before the next meeting.

It also suggested the ministry to take a comprehensive action plan to make
the tourism sector more attractive.

The parliamentary watchdog also suggested the ministry to increase
facilities to make the Cox’s Bazar sea beach more eye-catching.
