DHAKA, July 21, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked all
concerned to prevent all sorts of irregularities in the fisheries and
livestock sector strictly to continue its development trend.

“All individuals involved in irregularities must be brought to the book . .
. Ensure transparency and accountability at all sphere of your works,
including releasing fries into water bodies,” he told a function at Durbar
Hall of Bangabhaban marking the weeklong National Fisheries Week-2019 that
started on July 17.

Terming the fisheries sector as a huge potential one, President Hamid
stressed on playing a responsible role of the government and all fisheries
related stakeholders including non-government, voluntary and commercial
organisations in availing the optimum opportunities of the sector.

Mentioning fisheries sector’s contribution to generate employment
opportunity, he said, “Some negative reports over the use of adulterated fish
feeds were published and aired in different media in the recent time. This
has put negative impacts on the mind of people.”

The head of the state asked all concerned to remain alert so that a
section of fraudulent people cannot do any harm of the potential sector.

Noting that some dishonest businessmen are tarnishing the image of the
country and hampering export of the sector, President Hamid said, “But you
know fisheries and livestock is a very important sector in country’s export.”

He mentioned that fisheries sector is fulfilling 60 percent demand of
animal protein and 11 percent of the entire population of the country depends
on this sector for their livelihood.

“We have to inspire mass people to preserve and cultivate fishes of all
species to earn profit as well as maintain environmental and geological
diversification,” he observed.

The recent media report on pasteurized milk not only caused loss, but also
affected marginal farmers and producers.

the business but also brings havoc for marginal farmers…We have to bring
all culprits involved in irregularities to the legal framework,” the
President opined.

Abdul Hamid also laid emphasis on creating awareness among fishermen, fish
cultivators, entrepreneurs and other people concerned so that the laws
regarding fisheries can be ensured properly.

The President said now it is very urgent to ensure fair management as well
