15 eminent citizens protest Priya Saha’s comments
DHAKA, July 21, 2019 (BSS) – Fifteen eminent citizens of the country today protested the fabricated remarks made by Bangladeshi woman Priya Saha to US President Donald Trump on persecution of minorities in Bangladesh.
In a joint statement, they said it can never be accepted that one will make adverse comments against the country’s harmony, democracy, non-communalism, liberation and sovereignty by taking an advantage of representing the country in an international forum.
“The Constitution of Bangladesh recognizes the rights of protesting injustice. But we think, making such complaints to a foreign head of state is beyond her jurisdiction. It has damaged the country’s image and embarrassed the government,” they added.
The noted citizens urged all to remain alert so none can fish in troubled water by provoking communalism centering Priya’s comments.
Dr Syed Anwar Hossain, Pankaj Bhattacharya, Ramendu Majumdar, Dr Sarwar Ali, Ziauddin Tareq Ali, Dr Nur Mohammad Talukder, Khushi Kabir, Rokeya Kabir, Professor Dr Azizur Rahman, Professor Rubayet Ferdous, Dr Syed Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury, Dr Selu Basit, Saleh Ahmed, Advocate Foyez Ahmed and Advocate Parvez Hasem signed the statement.
