Major rivers cross danger level at 23 more points across country

DHAKA, July 17, 2019 (BSS) – Major rivers crossed danger marks at 23 more
points across the country as all the four of the country’s major basins
continued to rise due to incessant downpours and onrush of water from
upstream, according to a bulletin of Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre
(FFWC) issued here today.

Flood situation in Kurigram, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Bogra, Sirajganj,
Tangail, Manikganj and Faridpur districts may deteriorate in the next 24
hours, the FFWC bulletin said adding flood situation in Netrokona, Sunamganj,
Sylhet, Habiganj and Moulvibazar districts may improve in next 24 hours.

Water levels at 49 river stations monitored by Flood Forecasting and
Warning Centre (FFWC) have marked rise while 38 stations recorded fall.

Among the 93 monitored stations, water level at six river stations has
been registered steady while water levels at 23 river stations are flowing
above danger level, the bulletin added.

All the major rivers of the country are in rising trend except upper
Meghna and South-Eastern Hilly region, it said adding the Brahmaputra-Jamuna
and Ganges-Padma rivers may continue rising in next 48 hours and the Padma
river at Bhagyakul point may cross danger level in next 24 hours.

The Surma at Kanaighat, Sylhet and Sunamganj, the Kushiyara at Amalshad,
Sheola, Sherpur- Sylhet, the Manu at Moulvibazar, the Old Surma at Derai, the
Someswari at Kalmakanda, the Kangsha at Jariajanjail, the Titas at B.Baria,
the Dharla at Kurigram, the Ghagot at Gaibandha, the Brahmaputra at Noonkhawa
and at Chilmari, the Jamuna at Fulchari, Bahadurabad, Sariakandi, Kazipur and
Serajganj, the Atrai at Baghabari, the Dhaleswari at Elasin and the Padma at
Goalundo are flowing above danger level 87cm, 51cm, 59cm, 88cm, 74cm, 53cm,
58cm, 10cm, 44cm, 30cm, 5cm, 116cm, 89cm, 102cm, 132cm, 147cm, 160cm, 114cm,
103cm, 72cm, 44cm, 44cm and 11cm respectively.
