54, 765 hajj pilgrims reach Saudi Arabia

DHAKA, July 16, 2019 (BSS) -A total of 54,765 hajj pilgrims have so far reached Saudi Arabia through 150 government and non-government flights to perform hajj.

The information was revealed at the third meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Religious Affairs Ministry at Sangsad Bhaban here today with its chairman Md Hafiz Ruhul Amin Madani in the chair, a handout said.

The meeting apprised that 64,000 hajj pilgrims and guides trained up under supervision of District Commissioners (DCs) and the Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation.

Committee members Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizvandary, Showkat Hasanur Rahman Rimon, Manoranjan Shill Gopal, Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury, H M Ibrahim, Jinnatul Bakia, Tahmina Begum and Ratna Ahmed attended the meeting.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Advocate Sheikh Md Abdullah also attended the meeting at a special invitation.

The meeting informed that 3, 139 hajj pilgrims received treatment from the Healthcare Centre of Saudi Arabia through automatic prescription.

A total of 74 hajj flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and 76 flights of Saudi Airlines landed at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah till the date, it said.

The last hajj flight will fly for Saudi Arabia on August 5 next from Bangladesh, while the return flights will start on August 17 in 2019, the handout said.

The committee discussed annual activities of Islamic Foundation and recommended involving parliament members in religious and national programmes in their respective constituency.
