KHULNA, July 16, 2019 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced five youths to death on charge of rape and killing a woman and her father four years back.
Judge of the tribunal against repression on women and children Md. Mohiduzzaman handed down the verdict in a crowded courtroom in presence of four accused of the case.
The principal accused of the case Shariful remained absconding since the incident occurred on September 18, 2015 in the city’s Gallamari area.
The Judge also awarded them seven years imprisonment and fined Taka one lakh each for dumping the bodies in a septic tank.
Criminals getting the death sentence are- Saiful Islam Pitil, 30 and Shariful, 27, son of Sheikh Abdul Zalil, Liton, 28, son of Abul Kalam, Abu Sayeed, 25, son of Wahidul Islam and Azizur Rahman, 26, son of late Sekendar Rahman.
They are from Moulavir Darga Road under Labonchara Police Station in the city.
According to the prosecution a band of miscreants gang raped Parveen Sultana, 27, ex officer of Exim Bank of Khulna City branch and strangulated her with her scarf in the night on September 18, 2015. Earlier, criminals strangulated her father Elias Ali at gun point beside her room.
They miscreants also looted valuables including cash and gold ornaments from the house.
On September 19, Rezaul Choudhury Biplob, son of Elias Ali, filed a case with Labonchara Police Station in this connection. On September 22, police filed another case against the accused persons on charge of rape.
According to the FIR, the accused persons had been stalking and sexual harassing Parveen Sultana on her way to job. One day she came in protest, enraging the miscreants. In retaliation the stalkers took revenge on Parveen Sultana.
Criminals Liton and Sayeed confessed about the looting, gang rape and double murder under section 164 of the CrPC. Police pressed charge sheet on 24 March in rape case and murder case on May 9, 2016.
The court examined 22 witnesses in rape case and 27 in murder case during the trial.
