Fourth Namaz-e-Janaza of HM Ershad held in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 16, 2019 (BSS) – The fourth and last Namaz-e-Janaza of Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad was held at Collectorate Eidgah ground in the city today.

Hundreds of thousands of people, including leaders, workers and supporters of the district and upazila units of Jatiya Party from Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions participated in the biggest ever Namaz-e-Janaza held here after the Zohr prayers at 2.30pm.

Leaders of Awami league (AL), its associate bodies, BNP, JASHOD, Zaker Party, other political parties and common people participated in the Namaz-e-Janaza.

Earlier, the body of Ershad, also a former President of the country, was flown to Rangpur from Dhaka around 11.50am and his coffin draped with the National Flag taken to the Collectorate Eidgah ground at 12.25pm.

Later, a smart contingent of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) forces gave a guard of honour and bugle played the last post before his last Namaz-e-Janaza.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, officials of the divisional and district administrations, Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police, RpMP, RAB-13, leaders of Jatiya Party, AL and other political parties placed wreathes on his coffin.

Acting Chairman of Jatiya Party Golam Mohammad Quader, MP, its Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga, MP, City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, among others, addressed the pre-Namaz-e-Janaza ceremony.

Imam of Rangpur City Corporation Jam-e-Mosque Moulana Mohammad Idris Ali conducted the Namaz-e-Janaza.

After his Namaz-E-Janaza, the body of Ershad was taken to his “Polli Nibas” residence compound in Darshona area of the city for burial as per the changed decision of Jatiya Party and family members of the late President.

The burial process of Ershad’s body at his “Polli Nibas’ residence was continuing till filing of this report at 4.20pm.

Earlier, three separate Namaz-e-Janazas of Ershad were held at Dhaka Cantonment’s Central Mosque, South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad and Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on July 14 and July 15.

Ershad died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka on July 14 last at the age of 89.
