KURIGRAM, July 15, 2019 (BSS) – Flood situation in the Kurigram district
has severely deteriorated as three major rivers — Dharala, Bramaputra and
Teesta — are overflowing due to incessant rainfall and onrush of water from
the upstream.

The district administration sources said floodwater inundated 262 villages
under nine upazilas of the district leaving three lakh people marooned.

A total of 77 temporary shelter centres have been set up, where nearly
4000 people have taken shelter, they added.

Flood situation badly affected Nagashari upazila when an embankment on the
Dhudkumar river collapsed, an official of Water Development Board (WDB) said.
Shardoba, Charbarolai and Bangturghat are at risk of collapsing, he added.

Road communications from Kurigram to Bhurangamari have been snapped by
floodwater, local authorities said, adding many major roads in Kurigram
district went under floodwater hampering smooth movement of vehicles.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said dry food and rice
are being distributed among the people in flood-hit areas. A total of 280
tonnes of rice, Taka 6,75,000 and 2000 packets of food have been allocated
for the flood victims.
