Sorry start for Bangladesh in Indoor Asia Cup

DHAKA, July 15, 2019 (BSS)- The Bangladesh national hockey team made a sorry start as they suffered a huge 6-0 goal defeat to Malaysia in their pool A opening match of Indoor Asia Cup held today (Monday) in Chonburi, Thailand.

In the day’s match, Yaacob opened an account for Malaysia scoring the first goal in the 2nd minute while Faridzul doubled the lead three minute later.

Silverius further widened the winners’ margin scoring the third goal in the 15th minute while Yaacob scored his second and fourth goal for Malaysia in the 20th minute of the match.

After the breather, Faridzul scored his second and fifth for Malaysia in the 37th minute while Omar completed the winners’ tally scoring the sixth goal for Malaysia in the 39th minute of the match.

In another opening fixture of the Pool B match, Singapore beat Chinese Taipei by 3-1 goal.

For the first time ever Bangladesh have made their debut in the tournament.

Bangladesh have been grouped in Pool A along with defending champions Iran, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand while the Pool B consist with Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore and Uzbekistan.

Bangladesh will meet defending champions Iran in their second group A fixture scheduled to be held tomorrow (Tuesday).

The boys in red and green will play their third match against Philippines on July 17 before playing their final group match against Thailand on July 18.

The 12-member final squad are Asim Gope (GK), Abu Sayed Nippon (GK), Imran Hassan Pintu, Rashel Mahmud Jimy, Ashraful Islam, Khorshedur Rahman, Farhad Ahmed Shitul, Fazle Hossain Rabbi, Sarwar Hossain, Mainul Islam Kowshik, Milon Hossain and Rumman Sarkar.
