BCB for coach with experience to work in sub-continent

DHAKA, July 14, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has begun the groundwork of finding the successor of Steve Rhodes as they are looking for a coach with at least little experience to work with any sub-continent side.

But that doesn’t mean that the coach has to be necessarily from sub-continent, revealed BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon.

With so many series and tournament coming in on and off the country, BCB wants to finalize on a coach as early as possible.

“It’s not like he has to be from our sub-continent. We are looking for someone who has some experience of working with sub-continental team or at least know well about the sub-continental teams,” BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon told the reporters in London.

Having said that the BCB chief revealed, the door is ajar for the Bangladesh’s former coach Chandika Hathurusingha also.

“We haven’t any contact with him [Hathurusingha]. We don’t how many days are left in his current contact [with Sri Lanka] we do not know yet. We will have our door open, we will see if he is interested. We will consider him with the same importance. We have lot of options but there is no specification yet,” he remarked.

Last time when Hathurusingha abruptly resigned from the Bangladesh’s head coach post, BCB had to sweat over finding a suitable one. They had to wait one year before picking up Steve Rhodes as his successor.

However this time, BCB president ensured that there will be no hiccup like that.

“Last time we took time because the names we had in our mind were already working with some other teams. This is the right time to pick a new coach. Because World Cup is almost over and many coaches are about to end their current agreements, so, if we ask for someone, we have good possibility to get him.”

“We have good names in our list. We have lots of options as the World Cup is over and many of them are free,” he opined.
Given the past experience, BCB wants to alert in choosing the coach.

Papon said the appointment of other backroom staffs has been in process right now.

“Spin bowling and pace bowling coach selections are in process but we have not looked for head coach properly. We want to be careful selecting the head. Last time we picked someone before Rhodes but he later denied coming here just moments before signing the agreement,” he said.
