Flood situation in Sunamganj remains unchanged
SUNAMGANJ, July 13, 2019 (BSS) – The flood situation in six upazilas under Sunamganj district remained unchanged due to heavy rainfall and onrush of hilly waters in the last five days.
“Water level of rivers in the district has risen due to continuous rainfall and onrush of hilly waters in the last several days. Water of Surma river is flowing above 87 centimeter of danger line at Sunamganj point,” Abu Bakar Siddique Bhuiyan, executive engineer of Sunamganj Water Development Board told newsmen.
The direct communication of the district town with Tahirpur, Jamalganj and Bishambharpur upazilas has been cut off.
Road communication with one part of Korbannagar union under sadar upazila, one part of Surma union, Jahangirnagar union and one part of Laxmipur union under Dowarabazar upazila has been cut off as water entered into the upazilas damaging Sunamganj-Haluaghat road on Saturday night.
Administrations of flood affected upazilas have been distributing relief goods among the victims.
