Flood situation worsens in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, July 13, 2019 (BSS) – Flood situation has worsened further as
water level of the river Teesta at the Nilphamari point is flowing by 50 cm
above its danger mark.

Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Md Rabiul Islam told BSS
that, “Water level at Dalia point of the river Teesta is flowing by 50cm
above its danger mark.”

According to representatives of local government bodies, onrush of water
from upstream region and heavy rainfall triggered floods in 15 char areas
under Nilphamari district leaving over 20,000 families marooned.

Flood situation in Nilphamari district is gradually deteriorating as the
water level of Teesta has increased sharply in the past 24 hours. Low-lying
areas in the district were flooded as water levels in the major rivers rose
sharply, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, executive engineer of Water Development Board
of Nilphamari said.

Alongside taking initiatives to check damages of embankments, adequate
relief materials have been kept ready to aid the flood victims. Officials of
Water Development Board have remained alert to deal with emergency situation
of flood.
