BCB XI’s match against Vidarbha ends in a draw

DHAKA, July 13, 2019 (BSS) – The BCB XI’s first match in the Dr. (captain) K. Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament against Vidarbha Cricket Association ended in a draw at the Alur-2 (Golden Oval) in Bengaluru on Saturday.

The tournament, dubbed as ‘Mini Ranji Trophy’ is being organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

The BCB XI set 323 runs target to Vidarbha on the final and fourth day after being all out for 175 in its second innings. Vidarbha reached 38-1 in 14 overs before the bails were drawn, with opener R Sanjay on 28 not out.

Opener Safi Hasan was the highest scorer for BCB XI in the second innings with 47 runs. Wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan scored 26 while opener Jahurul Islam Omee made 25.

BCB XI lost the wicket of Jahurul Islam in the first over, having started the day on 41-1. The visitors, looking for a positive result, played in attacking mode but that didn’t go well for them as they lost wickets at regular interval to be bowled out for paltry 175.

Atharva Deshpande claimed 4-47 while Aditya Sarvate took 3-36.

Still the target was huge for Vidarbha as BCB XI gained a 147-run lead in the first innings.

As there was not much time, the match predictably ended in draw finally. Medium pacer Ariful Haque took the only fallen wicket.

Earlier, BCB XI declared the first innings on 500-7, thanks to Mominul Haque’s 169 and Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s 118.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam snapped up 8-89 to dismantle Vidarbha as they were finally shot out for 353, handing BCB XI the crucial 147-run first innings lead.

The BCB XI will take on Dr. DY Patil Cricket Academy in their next match, slated to begin on July 16.
