Flood hits in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, July,13, 2019 (BSS) – Floodwater inundated most areas of Jamalpur district as the Jamuna river is overflowing due to heavy downpour and onrush of water from upstream.

Water Development Board (WDB) sources said, the Jamuna river was flowing 48 cm above the red mark at Bahadurabad ghat point till 12 noon today.

They said a total of 17 Unions in Islampur , Dewanganj, Sarishabari and Madarganj upazilas in the district were affected by the Flood water.

Flood Forecasting Warning Centre said flood situation may worsen further, if water level of the Jamuna river will rise. District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Nayeb Ali said 70 metric tons of rice, Taka 2 lakh in cash and 2000 packets dried food were allocated for flood affected people in the Jamalpur district.

Alongside taking initiatives to check damages of embankments, adequate relief materials have been kept ready to aid the flood victims.
