Zahid advises people to be aware of mosquito-borne diseases

DHAKA, July 09, 2019 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid
Maleque today advised people to be aware of mosquito menace saying they
should take necessary steps by their own to save themselves from mosquito-
borne diseases such as dengue.

“As dengue outbreak is a little bit more this year than previous years…
I would like to advise people of the country to take the necessary measures
by their own in this regard to save themselves from the mosquito-borne
disease,” he said this while talking to journalists after a meeting.

The meeting was held at ministry’s conference room at the secretariat here
over the preparedness of the observance of the National Mourning Day-2019 and
martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman.

People are being admitted to different hospitals with mosquito-related
diseases especially with Dengue fever as mosquito breeding has increased this
rainy season, he said.

Authorities of all the hospitals concerned have been given directives to
take necessary measures to combat Dengue, he said, adding: “Our doctors and
nurses have been informed and given trainings to this end so that they can
treat patients properly.”

The minister also urged officials of city corporations to intensify
mosquito control and cleanliness drive in the city in order to protect the
city dwellers from the mosquito menace.

Director General (DG) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Abul
Kalam Azad said a total of 2,626 dengue patients were admitted to different
hospitals this year.

Of them, at least 551 patients are now undergoing treatment at those
hospitals.

He advised the people, who are suffering from fever, to examine themselves
at the hospitals without any hesitation.

There are adequate arrangements for Dengue treatment in all private and
government hospitals, he informed.

Health Service Division Secretary Md Asadul Islam, Health Education and
Family Welfare Division Acting Secretary Sheikh Yusuf Harun and Additional
Secretary Habibur Rahman Khan were present at the meeting, among others.
