HC extends Huda, wife’s bail in graft case

DHAKA, July 09, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court today extended interim bail
tenure for former minister Nazmul Huda and his wife Sigma Huda till end of
probe in a graft case.

Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the
order, allowing a plea of the accused.

Nazmul Huda moved the case himself, while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan
stood for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin
Uddin Manik was present from the state side.

The High Court on July 8 had asked to finish the probe in the case within
four months.

The ACC on June 18, 2008, filed the case with Motijheel Police Station for
allegedly realizing bribe from contracting firm, who was given responsibility
to manage and maintain Bangabandhu Bridge. The High Court in 2016 scrapped
the case, accepting an appeal of Huda.

The ACC however, filed an appeal with the Appellate Division of the
Supreme Court. The apex court on June 7, 2017, revoked the High Court order
of scrapping the proceedings of the case.
