DHAKA, July 7, 2019 (BSS)- Afghanistan A leg-spinner Qais Ahmed claimed 6-62 to leave Bangladesh A in tricky position on the third day of the first four-day match at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Sunday.
At the end of the day, Bangladesh A were 170-9 in its second innings, taking a lead of 166 runs.
Afif Hossain scored highest 41 for Bangladesh while skipper Imrul Kayes made 34. The duo only came up with resistance but couldn’t make their start count due to some splendid bowling from 18-year old Qais.
The leg-spinner sliced Bangladesh A’s top order before Kayes and Anamul Haque Bijoy (23), the centurion of the first innings, steadied the ship.
As they looked to take the side in safe zone, Qais removed both of them to derail Bangladesh further, making them five down for 81 runs.
Afif counter-attacked in style to help Bangladesh propel past 150 that looked unlikely at one phase. Sanjamul Islam gave him the support with 21 runs.
Sumon Khan and Salahuddin Shakil were in the crease as the last repair when the bails were drawn for day three.
Earlier, resuming the day on 135-5, Afghanistan were bowled out for 257, taking only 4 runs first innings lead over Bangladesh A who were shot out for 253 in its first innings.
Qais Ahmed also dazzled with batting as he struck an unbeaten 46 runs to help the side take the lead. Afsar Zazai, the overnight unbeaten batsman made 45 before being dismissed.
For Bangladesh A, Sanjamul Islam, Tanbir Hyder and Kamrul Islam Rabbi took three wickets apiece.
