DHAKA, July 06, 2019 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary today said as drug abuse poses a big constraint on the way to building a healthy society, parents ought to spend more time with their offspring and educate with them ideal education.

He laid emphasis on creating a social movement against the drug abuse.

“Drug abuse is destroying our society. We are marching towards development. But drug abuse is a big constraint on the way to building a healthy society,” he said.

Patwary was addressing the ‘Merit-basis Stipend Distribution Programme-2019’ as the chief guest at the Convention Hall of Police Staff College in the city’s Mirpur area, said a press release.

Additional IGP (HRM) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun presided over the function while Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed, Additional IGP (A&O) Dr Md Mainur Rahman Chowdhury and Bangladesh Police Nari Kollyan Samity (PONAK) President Habiba Javed addressed it as special guests.

Additional Inspector General (health and education) Taptun Nasrin delivered welcome speech in the function.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drug abuse while Bangladesh Police announced a war against narcotics, Patwary said, urging the meritorious youngsters to join the movement.

“We can go forward only through acquiring knowledge. We don’t want certificate-based education. But we need enlightened people with moral and human values and good character to enlighten the society and encourage others,” he said.

A total of 201 children of police personnel, who obtained GPA-5 in HSC examination and Grade-A in three subjects in A-Level examination-2018, were given the merit-basis stipend this year.
