Govt to raise taxpayers to 10m by next 2-yr: NBR chief
DHAKA, July 06, 2019 (BSS) – National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan today said the government has taken necessary initiatives to raise the number of taxpayers to 10 million within the next two years.
“Only one percent of our total population is paying tax. We are planning to increase the number of taxpayers to 10 million within the next two years. We have already started working to raise the number of tax payers,” he said.
The NBR chief said this while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on “Finance Act, 2019 vis-…-vis National Budget 209-20 and New VAT Policy and its Implementation Process” at the Dhaka Club in the city.
Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) organised the seminar.
NBR Member (Tax policy) Kanon Kumar Roy and NBR Member (VAT Policy) Dr Abdul Mannan Shikder were present at the seminar as special guests while Chairman of the ICSB Professional Development Sub-Committee Mohammad Asad Ullah was in the chair.
Chairman of the ICSB Seminar and Conference Sub Committee Md Azizur Rahman presented the keynote paper.
Terming the national budget for the fiscal 2019-20 as business-friendly, Mosharraf said, the government is giving special focus on business and investment in the national budget for achieving higher GDP growth.
“The national budget for the fiscal 2019-20 is business and investment friendly. We have taken some protections in different fields for expanding trade and business,” he added.
