Anamul century gives Bangladesh A an edge

DHAKA, July 6, 2019 (BSS) – Anamul Haque Bijoy struck an unbeaten 121 to give Bangladesh A an edge over Afghanistan A on the second day of the first four-day match at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Saturday.

Anamul’s century helped Bangladesh A to amass 253 in the first innings on a difficult pitch after which the visitors ended the day with 135-5, trailing by 118 runs.

Left-arm spinner Sanjamul Islam tormented the Afghan batsman in a pitch that traditionally is conducive for the spinners. He ended the day with 3-48, ably assisted by Kamrul Islam rabbi and Salahuddin Shakib who scalped one wicket apiece.

Afghan opener Usman Ghani was the highest scorer for the side with 39 while Ibrahim Zadran made 37.

Before the bails were drawn for day two, Shahidullah, the last recognized batsman of the side was batting on 22 with Afsar Zazai on 9.

Resuming the day on 119-4, Anamul was key in taking the side past 250. He and Afif Hossain shared 89-run partnership to laid the platform.

But Afif’s dismissal on 50, sparked a sensational collapse that saw Bangladesh lost six wickets for 56 runs. Amid the collapse, Anamul kept his wicket intact, making 121 off 205, with 14 fours and two sixes.

Yamin Ahmadzai and Qais Ahmed scalped three wickets apiece for Afghanistan A.
