All districts to have BSTI offices: Humayun

COX’S BAZAR, July 04, 2019 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today said the government has embarked on a plan to set up offices of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) at district-level across the country.

“BSTI is playing a vital role in ensuring safe food for people. The government is planning to set up BSTI offices at district level for reaching its’ services to the doorsteps of people,” he said while speaking at a discussion here, said a press release.

Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) Foundation organised the discussion.

Earlier, the Industries Minster inaugurated the BSTI Cox’s Bazar district office.

State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder was present at the discussion as the special guest while BSTI Director General M Muazzem Hussain delivered the welcome speech.

As part of the government initiatives to set up BSTI district-level offices, Humayun said, BSTI has already established Office-cum-Laboratory Bhaban at different districts, including Mymensing, Rangpur, Faridpur and Cumilla.

“Establishment of BSTI offices in another 12 districts is under process,” he added.

Kamal Mojumder said the government has taken initiatives to turn BSTI into an international standard organisation.

“BSTI is making its utmost efforts to fulfill the government’s plan. BSTI is inflicting punishment to the unscrupulous traders,” he added.

Additional Secretary of the Industries Ministry Mohammad Mufizul Haque presided over the discussion.
