EIT enhancing skills to make youths self-reliant in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 04, 2019 (BSS) – Engineers Institute of Technology (EIT), Rangpur is enhancing skills of male and female youths free of costs, arranging jobs and paving their way to self-employment for attaining self-reliance.

Since its inception in 2007, the EIT, located at Robertsonganj area of the city, began its technical training program on four treads for unemployed youths after getting affiliation from Bangladesh Technical Education Board last year.

“We are providing three-month training to 125 youths in every batch on Masson, Tiles Fitting, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting and Electrical Installation and Maintenance Trades,” said Chairman of the institute AKM Nazmul Haque.

The training programme is being run and jobs being provided free of costs to youths on completion of their training on various trades under Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP) of the Ministry of Finance.

“Under management of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), the SEIP is being implemented with financial assistance of the Ministry of Finance to produce skilled workforce and create their job opportunities,” he said.

The trainee youths are also getting Taka 10,800 in two phases during their three-month training course as government allowance.

The Job Placement Division of the EIT is contacting construction and electrical installation companies to search for their requirement of skilled workforce on these four trades for providing jobs to trained youths across the country.

“After getting training from the EIT, some male and female youths in groups are also launching their own enterprises or working as sub-contractors in the construction sector,” Haque said.

Centre-in-Charge of EIT at Rangpur Nazmul Alam said the government with other organisations is executing the SEIP project through the Ministry of Finance at 13 EITs across the country with only one at Rangpur in Rangpur division.

Since December last year, 252 male and female youths have completed training in two batches on four trades and most of them have got jobs and some of them have opened their own enterprises in groups.

“We will produce 500 skilled youths annually from EIT, Rangpur with 125 each in four batches on four trades side by side with arranging jobs for them,” Alam said.

Talking to BSS, youth Mohiuddin Aziz of village Garagram in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari said he completed training on Electrical Installation and Maintenance Trade in the first batch from January to March this year from EIT, Rangpur.

“I am working at ‘Safal Electric Hardware’ in Rangpur city and earning Taka 15,000 per month,” Aziz said adding that he is living better life with family members forgetting previous experience of unemployment.

Youth Chandan Mridha of Darshona area in Rangpur said he completed training on Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Trade from EIT, Rangpur.

“I am working at ‘Haque Construction Company Limited’ in Rangpur and earning Taka 16,000 per month,” he said expressing gratitude to EIT, Rangpur and the government for providing him with cost-free training and job.

Youths Nishi Akhter and Lubna Akhter, who are friends, of Alamnagar Kamarpara in Rangpur city said they got training on and Electrical Installation and Maintenance Trade from EIT, Rangpur in the first batch.

“We have opened an enterprise and are providing services to earn Taka 10,000 monthly per head along with conducting family works,” said Lubna adding that they will constitute their own to building a developed Bangladesh.
