Steps taken to resist reemergence of militancy: IGP

RANGPUR, July 01, 2019 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary today said adequate steps have been taken to resist reemergence of militancy in any form in the country.

“The Islamic State (IS) is trying to collect new members using internet and social media,” he said while talking to journalists after attending a function as the chief guest.

The IGP formally launched the website of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), CCTV monitoring systems and its job description for officials in the function.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud presided over the function arranged on the occasion at his conference room in the city.

The IGP said many Bangladeshi militants went to Syria to implement the IS ideology, but none of them returned to the country.

“Besides, the neo-militants are becoming interested to the IS ideology. Many of our teams are adequately aware of the situation to resist them following the zero tolerance policy,” he said.

“We are using the latest technologies to destroy their online activities,” he said adding that the militant will never be able to raise their heads again on this soil and police is committed to ensure sustainable security.

“The IS militants are still trying to collect members in Bangladesh through internet and social media though they were successfully resisted after the Holey Artisan incident,” the OIGP said adding that there is nothing to fear.

He also informed the journalists that examination of witnesses of the Holey Artisan attack case would be completed very soon.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Additional Police Commissioner of RpMP Abu Sufian, Police Super of Rangpur Mizanur Rahman, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of RpMP Abdullah Al Farooque and other RpMP officials were present.

Later, the IGP addressed a special meeting on law and order with RpMP officials at Rangpur Metropolitan Police Lines auditorium on the Rangpur-Gangachara road in the city.
