HC wants policy against unnecessary C-sections

DHAKA, June 30, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered authorities concerned to form a committee consisting experts and stakeholders within a month to formulate a policy to tackle unnecessary C-sections in the country.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order, asking the committee to prepare and submit its policy within six months.

The court also issued a rule in this regard, asking health secretary, director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and president of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council to explain within four weeks as to why their inaction in conduction effective monitoring against unnecessary C-sections shall not be declared illegal.

The court set December 5 to pass further order in this regard.
