Check graft in health sector: Raushon asks govt
SANGSAD BHABAN, June 29, 2019 (BSS) – Deputy Leader of Opposition
Raushon Ershad today urged the government to take steps to check corruption
in the health sector to reach the healthcare services at the grassroots.
Taking part in the general discussion on budget in the Jatiya Sangsah here, she
said, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) recently sent a recommendation
to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, identifying 11 sources of
corruption in health sector which should be considered positively.
Raushon said corruption must be checked in the country’s health sector to
reach the healthcare services at the doorsteps of marginal people.
“Increasing budgetary allocation will not be enough to reach the healthcare
services to the people without curbing corruption,” she observed, adding that
is why corruption must be prevented in the country’s health sector.
The Deputy Leader of Opposition stressed the need for increasing budgetary
allocation in the health sector aiming to ensnare quality healthcare to all.
Observing that the date-expired medicines are flooding in the market, she said
monitoring should be strengthened to stop the sale of date-expired medicines
to protect public health.
She said many people including lawmakers are going abroad for treatment
every year and spend a huge amount of money. “If we can ensure proper
treatment faculty for them in the country, we would be able to keep the money
in the country for our welfare.”
Highlighting the different aspects of the proposed budget for fiscal 2019-20,
Raushon said the budget must take initiatives so that the inequality between
the poor and the rick could not go up.
The scope of giving tax exemption for the small and medium entrepreneurs
with turnover of up to Tk 50,000 will be a positive thing, she said.
About the country’s education, Raushon said many students are getting GPA-
5 in different examinations every year, but they do not know even about their
own country. It is true that the standard of education is not satisfactory at all,
she added.
“If we fail to educate our children with proper education, unemployment of
youths will go up,” she said.
Like the previous fiscal years, she said the government has given an increased
allocation in the proposed budget.
The Deputy Leader of Opposition urged the government not to impose any tax
on e-commerce as a huge number of youths are currently working in the
sector.
