FBCCI seeks hassle-free tax environment

DHAKA, June 27, 2019 (BSS) – Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) today sought hassle-free tax environment to enable the country’s business community run their businesses smoothly.

The apex trade body made the demand at a review meeting on the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2019-20 at InterContinental hotel in the city.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi presided over the meeting while Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs) of the Prime Minister’s Officer Md Abul Kalam Azad, FBCCI former president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Dr Rubana Huq, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Osama Taseer, Bangladesh Chamber of Industry (BCI) President Anwarul Alam Chowdhury Parvez and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Mahbubul Alam, among others, were present.

FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim presided over the meeting.

Tipu Munshi said the government is giving special emphasis on creating hassle-free tax environment at the field-level aimed at gearing up the country’s trade and investment environment.

“We have created a tax fear-free environment in the country,” he added.

He said the government will give special focus on ensuring the one percent incentive in the RMG sector as per the proposal of the national budget for the fiscal 2019-20.

Abul Kalam Azad said the government is making efforts to develop the country’s business and investment environment. “We will have to develop our skill. We can’t stay in the competitive market without developing our skill,” he added.

Sheikh Fazle Fahim urged the authorities concerned to discuss with business community before finalizing any decision regarding tax.
