Govt to establish 500 ICUs in public hospitals: Maleque
DHAKA, June 27, 2019 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said 500 Intensive Care Units (ICUs) would be established in public hospitals across the country.
“We will establish 500 ICUs in public hospitals across the country to provide better treatment to the common people,” he said.
Maleque was speaking as the chief guest at a programme titled, ‘Healthy Lifestyle Dissemination Workshop’ at Bronze Room of the Westin Hotel at city’s Gulshan Avenue.
Director General of Health Services Dr Abul Kalam Azad presided over the programme while former Health, Family Planning and Social Welfare Adviser to the Prime Minister and Community Clinic Health Support Trusty Board president Syed Modasser Ali was present as the special guest, among others.
Hygiene is a practice that should be executed in order to maintain good health, Maleque said, adding hygiene can be divided into several other types as personal hygiene, medical hygiene, hand hygiene and home hygiene.
Cleanliness can be said as a state of being free of dirt and germs aimed to maintain a healthy environment. Clean educational institution and workplace can be said as a place where there is an all-round protection from germs,” the health minister further said.
Regarding unnecessary C-section Zahid said, it puts mothers and babies at needless risk, increasing the likelihood of infection, excessive bleeding, organ damage and blood clots as well as claiming a significantly longer recovery time for the mother.
It also takes away the benefits of a natural birth, which enables newborns to receive a dose of good bacteria that’s believed to boost their immune system when they travel through the birth canal, and enables a mother and her baby to have physical contact earlier and breastfeeding to begin sooner, he added.
The Minister also said tobacco consumption would be eradicated from the country by 2040.
