19 injured in Ctg microbus gas cylinder blast

CHATTOGRAM, June 26, 2019 (BSS) – At least 19 people, including three children, received burn injuries in an explosion of a microbus (Hiace) gas cylinder at Patiya Municipality Sadar on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway last night.

The accident occurred in front of the Patiya Fire Service Station of Patiya bus station area around 11.10 pm last night when the victims were returning to Cox’s Bazar from Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport after seeing off a relative.

The victims were identified as Rubel, 21, Abdullah Al Mamun, 23, Abdul Alam, 29, Idris Ali, 51, Abul Kalam, 46, Jahir Uddin,39, Saidur Rahman, 18, Belal Hossain, 21, Shohagh, 14, Helal Uddin, 21, Mohammad Arif, 12, , Touhidul Islam, 30, , Arif Hossain, 03, Delwar Hossain, 21, Jahangir Alam, 38, Mohammad Abir,05, ‘Rafiqul Islam’,06, Lokman Mia,44, and Sadek Mia, 17.

Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge of Patiya Thana told BSS that the gas cylinder of the microbus exploded and caught fire in front of the Patiya Fire Service Station on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway last night.

Sixteen of the injured were taken to Chattagram Medical College Hospital’s burns unit. The other three were given first aid at Patiya health complex. Dr Narayan Dhar of Chattogram Medical College Hospital told BSS that the victims have suffered 30 to 35 percent burns.

They would be kept under observation for 24 hours, he added.

All of them are believed to be members of a same family that went to the airport to receive or see off a relative, eyewitness Mohammad Zamal Hossain of Patiya told BSS.
