PM orders structural survey of road, rail bridges
DHAKA, June 25, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered a countrywide structural survey of rail and road bridges and culverts to find if they need to be repaired.
She gave the directive at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) here today so necessary repair could be done before the rainy season.
The Prime Minister’s order came following the derailment of Dhaka-bound Upaban Express train from Sylhet on June 23 night, Planning Minister M A Mannan told newsmen after the ECNEC meeting.
He said the premier congratulated Bangladesh Cricket Team in the Ecnect meeting for the victory against Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup in England.
Besides, Sheikh Hasina asked the ministries of finance and sports to form a special fund to impart training to all professional athletes.
She said the fund would provide financial assistance for the athletes, even after their retirement, to maintain their physical fitness.
“If their (athletes) fitness remains all right, they could be engaged in other jobs,” Mannan quoted her as saying.
