Abahani take on Minerva Punjab tomorrow
DHAKA, June 25, 2019 (BSS) – With an aim to emerge group champions, Abahani Limited take on Minerva Punjab in their last group E away match from home of the AFC Cup scheduled to be held on tomorrow (Wednesday) at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, India.
The match kicks off at 4.30 pm.
Earlier, on Sunday last, the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit reached in Assam, India to play their final group match without their Nigerian striker Sunday Chizoba, who could not accompany with the team due to visa problem.
In April, Sunday was late to join Abahani for away match against Chennaiyin FC due to visa complications in which the Dhanmondi outfit suffered a solitary goal defeat.
Bangladesh Premier League champions Abahani need a victory to move into the inter-zone play-off but they will miss the service of Sunday and injured Brazilian midfielder Wellington Priori.
However, the Dhanmondi outfit can emerge as group champions even if they lose their tomorrow’s match against Minerva Punjab if second-placed Chennaiyin FC drop points against hosts Manang Marshyangdi in another group match scheduled to be held at the same venue.
Abahani dominated the points table with 10 points from five match while Minerva Punjab currently in the third position with five points playing the same number of matches.
Minerva Punjab are the only unbeaten team in the group E, having drawn all their five matches so far. The home side had twice taken the lead against Abahani in Dhaka, but goals from Sunday and Nabib Newaj Jibon secured a point for Abahani.
