HC wants list of milk, card producing farms

DHAKA, June 23, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered Bangladesh
Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) to submit list of farms producing
and marketing milk and curd with or without licenses in Dhaka.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder
and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order, asking BSTI to submit the list
within two weeks. It also set July 15 to hold further hearing on the matter.

The court also expressed discontent when BSTI counsel Sarkar MR Hasan said
the government agency has given license to 18 farms to produce and market
milk and curd and they have no obligation to monitor others.

“As you are responsible to monitor the farms with license, you are also
liable to monitor the farms producing and marketing milk and curd without
license,” the court said.

BSTI lawyer said Department of Agricultural Extension and Ministry of
Fisheries and Livestock are authorized to do these work while the court asked
the BSTI,”Who gave you the authority to play with the lives of people?”

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Counsel Mamun Mahbub and Deputy Attorney
General AKM Amin Uddin opposed thr BSTI lawyer’s arguments, saying BSTI has been
authorized to do this and now is trying to avoid its liability.
