Eight killed in Gopalganj, Faridpur and Natore

DHAKA, June 21, 2019 (BSS) – Eight people were killed and 15 injured in three districts — Gopalganj, Faridpur and Natore — in road accidents today and yesterday.

In Gopalganj, Nazim Uddin sustained injuries when a covered van hit a truck at Muksudpur Filling station in the district. He was rushed to Muksudpur upazila health complex where on duty doctors declared him dead.

Nazim Uddin was identified as an inhabitant of Borhanuddin thana of Bhola district.

In another road accident, Dhalu Mia, 70, of Pachuria village under Maksudpur upazila was killed while he was crossing Dhaka-Khulna highways in Maksudpur bus stand area in Gopalganj district last night. He died on the spot.

In Natore, three people were killed and seven others injured as a truck collided with a pick-up van in Kachikata area under Gurudaspur upazila in Natore this morning.

The deceased were identified as Rakibul Islam, 24, a resident of Sirajganj Sadar upazila, and Ruhul Amin Pramanik, 52, and Kader Hossain Akand, 55, of Taras upazila.

Senior station officer of Natore and Fire service and Civil Defence Aktar Hamid Khan said the accident took place when the Natore-bound goods-laden truck from Sirajganj hit a stationary pick-up van from behind around 6:30 am, killing three workers, who were travelling by the van, on the spot.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies and sent those to a local hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.

In Faridpur, three people of a family were killed and six others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Komorpur area under Sadar upazila of the district this noon.

The deceased were identified as Md Aslam Mollah, 60, his mother Mohirun Nesa, 80, and Achia Khatun, 85. All of them were the residents of Dewli village under Alfadanga upazila of the district.

Karimpur Highway Police said the accident occurred when a Faridpur-bound microbus skidded off in the area and plunged into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering around 12.30pm, leaving Aslam and Mohirun dead on the spot and injuring others.

The injured were rushed to Faridpur Trauma Center but Achia succumbed to her injuries on way to the hospital.

A case was filed in this connection.
