World Hydrography Day today

1050

DHAKA, June 21, 2019 (BSS) – The World Hydrography Day observed across the country like elsewhere in the world today.

World Hydrography Day is observed on 21 June every year since 2006. This
initiative was started by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO)
to increase awareness about the safe navigation, technical standards and
protection of the marine environment.

This year’s theme for World Hydrography Day is “Hydrographic information
driving marine knowledge.”

Bangladesh is one of the active members of IHO and Navy acts as the focal
point of all hydrographic matters in the sea area of Bangladesh.

Hydrography is the applied branch of science, which is primarily applied
for ensuring safe navigational passages through oceans, seas and rivers, said
an ISPR press release.

Unlike other sectors, Bangladesh is not falling much behind in the field
of hydrography. Bangladesh Navy Hydrographic Department is engaged in seaward
survey to provide safe navigation at sea and coastal area.

Hydrographic surveying is contributing substantially to the growth of the
country’s trade and economy.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Navy is able to create nautical chart in
international standard for safe navigation at sea.
