Bangladesh not in favour of batting-friendly wicket at home

DHAKA, June 21, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal was not in
favour of using the wicket which is conducive to the batsmen at their home
den, stating that this sort of wicket would hinder them taking the home
advantage.

ICC generally prepares the wicket in global tournament, considering
batsmen’s cause as it is widely regarded that the fans would like to see
shower of fours and sixes on the ground.

The wicket of this World Cup is no exception as the teams are almost
regularly putting up 300 plus runs, making it a run-fest tournament.

But Tamim refused to play in similar wickets, which is being used in this
World Cup at home despite knowing that it would be beneficial for batting.

”No, we don’t want to play [in this kind of wickets at home] because we
get certain home advantage in our country and for that advantage we win
matches,” Tamim said. ”As a batsman, I could say if we play in these types
of wickets, it would be good but the home advantage we get especially in ODI
cricket why we would want to lose that,” he questioned.

Tamim said they are taking positive from the fact that they are able to
score over 300 runs on regular basis and believe it will help them grow
confidence for the upcoming matches.

“The one positive thing is that, in the last two matches we have scored
above 300 runs and both in chasing, its gives you a belief as a batsman that,
if we restrict them at 320 or 330 runs, there is a chance to chase that
down,” Tamim said.

”If you look at our bowling, you will see there was a spell of 3-4 overs
where the match got out of our control. If you see our last three overs, we
have bowled pretty well. Everyone has done some mistakes, for that we lost
and we will try to minimise that,” he said, adding that they are not losing
any hope yet.

”See, we still have a chance. I think none of my teammates are thinking
that way, the one thing they are thinking is that…if we win last three
matches, there might be an opportunity to qualify for the semifinal,” he
said.

”So, till now we are at this point….if situation comes that no
opportunity is left, we will think about the fifth position,” he added.
