Call to make vitamin A plus campaign successful
KHULNA, June 19, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a workshop here today underscored the need for making the National Vitamin A plus Campaign on June 22 next a total success.
They were addressing at a journalists orientation workshop held at the city’s School Health Clinic jointly organized by Khulna Civil Surgeon Office and Khulna City Corporation (KCC) to devise ways and means on how to make the programme a complete success.
Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr. S M Abdur Razzak was in the chair while Deputy Civil Surgeon Atiar Rahman, Health Officer of KCC Swapon Halder, Deputy Director of Khulna PID Javed Iqbal, President and General Secretary of Khulna Press Club Habibur Rahman and S M Saheb Ali, addressed the conference, among others.
Dr Swapon Halder highlighted the main goals of the campaign saying all children under five years must take Vitamin A to maintain the prevalence of night blindness in children.
Vitamin A is saving over 50,000 lives of under five children a year along with reducing the severity at time of many diseases like measles and diarrhea, he said.
Besides, it ensures over 20 million under five children free from vitamin A deficiency and prevents nutritional blindness like night blindness, Bitot’ s spots and corneal lesions.
The view exchange meeting was told that a total of 1,57,385 babies aged under 12-59 months will be administered red colour vitamin A capsule in Khulna district while a total of 81,067 babies will be administered red colour vitamin A capsule in Khulna city corporation(KCC) area.
Meanwhile, a total of 21,065 babies under 6-11 months will be administered blue colour capsule in Khulna district while a total of 10,775 babies will be administered in KCC area.
A total of 3,362 volunteers will work at 1691 centers for the purpose.
