DHAKA, June 18, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court today asked authorities
concerned to take strong actions against traders’ still using chemicals on
fruits.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and
Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order as it expressed discontent on a
report submitted by Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) over
using chemical on fruits.

The court asked BSTI to make a complete report and submit before it on
June 23. Two other reports were also submitted on behalf of Director General
of RAB and Inspector General of Police.

The High Court on May 20 ordered authorities concerned to form teams to
monitor fruit markets and warehouses across the country so that none can use
chemicals on fruits.

The court had asked Inspector General of Police, Director General of RAB,
Chairman and director of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI)
to form the teams within next seven days. It also had asked them to submit
reports on this by today (June 18).

The High Court had came up with the order after holding hearing on a
supplementary petition filed by rights group Human Rights and Peace for
Bangladesh (HRPB).
