RAB arrests 6 autorickshaw muggers
DHAKA, June 17, 2019 (BSS) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 6
suspected robbers of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) autorickshaws from
different areas of the city.
The arrestees were M Harun-or– Rashid, 28, M Ruhul Amin, 36, M Jamal
Hossain, 60, M Sohel Khan, 40, Waliullah alias Joy, 21, and Rashid Khan, 45.
Assistant Director (Legal and Media Wing) of RAB M Mizanur Rahman told
media “The suspects were arrested when a RAB-4 team conducted raids in
Darusalam, Demra and Dakhinkhan of the city from 8:00pm on Sunday to Monday
morning.”
Addressing a press briefing at Kawranbazar, Commanding Officer of RAB-4
Additional DIG Manzurul Kabir said the CNG muggers snatched CNG three
wheelers adopting different strategies and realized large sums of money from
the CNG owners.
Besides, the muggers also took cash Tk 65,000-Tk 1,00,000 for each CNG from
owners, he said.
“The gang of snatcher usually hired a CNG first as passengers and then they
attacked the driver of the CNG after beating him up and then took the vehicle
to their own garage,” Kabir said.
He, however, said another group of muggers took position at a nearby tea
stall along with their associates, when they observed that a CNG driver
visited the tea stall for tea and water and then they took the opportunity
and mixed sedatives with the drinks.
Later, muggers hired the CNG and snatched it as the driver became
senseless, the RAB officer said.
Legal action against them is underway.
