DHAKA, June 16, 2019 (BSS) – Mushfiqur Rahim wrist injury during a practice session on Saturday came out as a big blow for the Bangladesh team management as Tigers too found themselves in a state of bewilderment.

If the diminutive batsman fails to get fit ahead of the crucial match against West Indies, it will be a big blow for Bangladesh, considering that he is the most consistent batsman not only for the country but also in the world, his batting stats suggested.

Amongst the batsman who scored more runs in the middle order position (from No. 4 to No. 6) in the last five years, Mushfiqur is in the fourth place with 2891 runs at an average of 46.62.

He batted in 78 innings in this period and struck four centuries as well as 20 half-centuries. He was adjudged man of the match 20 times which spoke a volume of a consistency level. It also was the evidence as to why he is called the most dependable batsman of the country.

His consistency is the reason that Bangladesh turned out to be a world beater from a team with occasional flashes of brilliance.

The elegant right batsman was the highest scorer in Bangladesh’s first match against South Africa in this World Cup, hitting an 80 ball-78 runs knock. He hasn’t scored as per his reputation in the last two completed games of Bangladesh against New Zealand and England though.

However New Zealand’s Ross Taylor is the highest run-getter in this period with 3828 runs in 50 innings, at an average of 63.80. The Kiwis hammered 10 centuries in this period.

England captain Eoin Morgan is in the second position with 3527 runs in 98 innings while his compatriot Jos Butler is in the third place with 2963 runs in 84 innings.

Sri Lanka’s former captain Angelo Mathews is in the fifth place, just behind Mushfiqur with 2613 runs in 70 innings while India’s former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is in sixth place with 2613 runs in 77 innings.

South Africa’s David Miller (2147 runs from 70 innings), England’s Ben Stokes (2101 runs from 58 innings), Australia’s Glenn Maxwell (2036 from 67 innings) and Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik (1932 from 63 innings) occupied the next four places to complete the top 10.
