Mushfiqur’s injury scare ahead of Tigers’ clash against Windies

DHAKA, June 15, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh received a huge blow ahead of their crucial clash against West Indies after their dependable wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim got a fresh injury scare during a practice session on Saturday at the Somerset Cricket ground in Taunton.

Mushfiqur got stuck on his wrist of the right hand while facing a delivery of pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman during his batting session in net.

He left the net session immediately after getting stuck on his hand and witness said ice was administered on his wrist. The extent of the injury is yet to be understood.

When contacted Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mahmud said, they were yet to know the extent of the injury.

“For the time being, he was being administered with ice. He has pain on his hand as far as I know. We have to wait to get the final report on the extent of his injury,” he said.

Mushfiqur is one the Bangladesh’s batting stalwarts who over the years played some magnificent knocks to help the side winning in many important matches.

The diminutive batsman was the team’s highest scorer in Bangladesh’s first match against South Africa in this World Cup, hitting a 80 ball-78 runs knock. He hasn’t scored as per his reputation in the last two completed games of Bangladesh against New Zealand and England though.

Bangladesh’s fourth match against Sri Lanka was washed out and hence their fifth match against West Indies which will be held on June 17 at Taunton turned out to be a crucial game for them in a bid to stay alive in the semifinal race.

In the wake of the situation, Mushfiqur’s injury came as a huge blow for Tigers.
