Walsh keeps plan to stop Russell, Gayle up in the sleeve

DHAKA, June 15, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh fast bowling coach Courtney Walsh
has laid out some plans to curb the aggression of Chris Gayle and Andre
Russell but refused to unleash it in public and insisted that the bowlers
should execute the plan properly.

Walsh however also said that he didn’t think West Indies just relied on
those two big men, rather they have other big hitters in the arsenal who also
can plunder any bowling line up on their day.

Bangladesh will take on West Indies on June 17 at Taunton, which is
small in size and believed to be favourable ground for big hitters.

Bangladesh have fairly good track record against West Indies in their
last encounter during the tri-nation in Ireland in which they beat them
thrice including the final but the Caribbean side’s strength was largely
hampered due to unavailability of some of their leading cricketers like Chris
Gayle and Andre Russell.

“We have some plans regarding them [Andre Russel and Chris Gayle],”
Walsh told reporters during the practice session in Taunton.

”They are two formidable players. We have to keep them at bay, and also
try to get them out. Then we will have the control of the match,” he said.

” We have to keep an eye on over the whole West Indies team because they
have some very good players. If we concentrate over one or two players and do
well against them, that’s good too. But at the end of the day, we have to
perform well against the whole West Indies team,” he said.

”And I am certain that we will be able to do so,” he added,

West Indies also have some other big hitters like Nicolas Pooran,
Shimron Hetmeyer, Shai Hope and Carlos Braithwaite apart from Russell and
Gayle and keeping them at bay will be essential for Tigers.

Shai Hope has also been a matter of concern for Bangladesh in the last
few series. His record against Bangladesh is phenomenal as he averages 94.57
against Bangladesh that included three centuries against the Tigers.

Walsh added that they are well aware about Hope and insisted they are
making plans for him too.

”As we saw the England bowlers were attacking the West Indies openers
right from the start, we have to do such sort of thing,” said Walsh but also
added that what route they will take will depend of the wicket and the ground
in the end.

“We will see what they are doing and how they are doing it. Different
ground, different wicket, and different dimensions, so everything will be
different. ”
