Budget proposes Tk 4,453 crore for Liberation War Affairs Ministry

DHAKA, June 13, 2019 (BSS) – Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today
proposed Taka 4,453 crore budget for the Liberation War Affairs Ministry for
2019-20 fiscal.

The proposed budget is Taka 605 crore more than the revised budget for
the ministry for 2018-19 fiscal, which was Taka 3,848 crore.

“The government is working relentlessly to preserve the memory of the
liberation war and the welfare of the freedom fighters,” the finance
minister’s budget speech read.

It said honorariums are being given to freedom fighters and their
successors to ensure the overall welfare of the freedom fighters while their
allowances are now being sent electronically to their bank accounts.

“The amount of this allowance has been increased many times in the last
ten years. Besides, two festival bonuses, Glorious Victory Day allowance, and
Bengali New Year allowance are also being provided, the document said.

The finance minister also drew house’s attention to the fact that
Bangladesh Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust Act, 2018 has been enacted to
ensure the welfare of the freedom fighters.

“To provide housing facilities to the freedom fighters, single-storied
buildings are being constructed for 15,000 destitute freedom fighters in the
country, either in their own land or through settlement in Khas lands, if
necessary”, the budget speech added.
