Mannan calls on JS Speaker
DHAKA, June 12, 2019 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan today paid a courtesy call on Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office in the JS Bhaban here.
During the meeting, they discussed overall activities of the Agri-Census-2019 as it would prepare authentic database on agriculture to help policymakers take effective plans for further improvement in the agriculture sector, said a press release.
As part of the census, the enumerators collected data from the speaker on food grains, fisheries and livestock, size of the agriculture households, land use, size of the cultivated land, number of cattle and poultry, agricultural machineries, food security, fisheries and forests in the urban and rural areas across the country, it added.
Mannan informed her that starting from today, the field-level data collection for the Agriculture Census-2019 would continue till June 20, for which as many as 1.5 lakh enumerators will work across the country.
Statistics and Informatics Division Secretary Saurendra Nath Chakrabhartty, BBS Director General of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) Krishna Gain and other high officials to the secretariat were present on the occasion.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics operates the agricultural census after every ten years.
To make this census a success, the BBS has already held a three-day special training programme for the census coordinators at division and district levels.
According to the BBS, the first zonal operations for the census took place from December 1 to 20 last year while the second zonal operations took place from February 9 to 20 this year.
Earlier, such agriculture census was carried out in the country in 1960, 1977, 1983-84, 1996 and 2008.
