World Day against Child Labour observed in country

DHAKA, June 12, 2019 (BSS) – The World Day against Child Labour-2019 was
observed in the country as elsewhere in the world today with the theme
“Children shouldn’t work in fields, but on dreams”.

Marking the day, a colorful procession led by Deputy Commissioner (DC)
Abdul Awal was brought out in Jashore town which ended at the DC office
premises after parading different streets.

A discussion organised by district administration was also held at
collectorate conference room this morning. Additional Deputy Commissioner
Hossain Showkot chaired the meeting.

In Jhenaidah, a procession organised by Manusher Jonno Foundation was
brought out in the district town. Later, the procession turned into a human
chain at Post Office intersection. Children, their guardians and NGO workers
took part in the human chain.

The speakers at the human chain urged the government should take all out
efforts to eliminate child labour from the country.

Besides, a workshop on “Preventing violence against children” was held at
Barguna press club auditorium this morning.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Anisur Rahman addressed the programme as the
chief guest with Station Manager of Lokobeter Md Monir Hossain Kamal in the
chair.

Station Manager of Radio Padma Shahana Parveen delivered welcome speech at
the workshop.

Journalist Chittaranjon Shil, Education Officers Shahadat Hossain and SM
Mizanur Rahman were present as special guests.

Centre for Communication and Development (CCD) and Lokobeter 99.2 jointly
organised the workshop.
