71 organisations get accreditation certificates from BAB

DHAKA, June 9, 2019 (BSS) – Seventy-one national and multinational laboratories and inspection organisations have so far received accreditation certificates from Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) as part of the process to strengthen the country’s position in export business.

The information was revealed today at a discussion marking the ‘World Accreditation Day-2019’ at the Industries Ministry conference room in the city, said a press release.

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and BAB jointly organized the discussion. The theme of the day this year is “Accreditation: Adding Value to Supply Chain”.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun addressed the function as the chief guest while DCCI President Osama Taseer was present as special guest. Industries Secretary M Abdul Halim was in the chair while BAB Director General Md Monwarul Islam also spoke on the occasion, among others.

Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said accreditation is a certification of goods or services for their quality assessment, based on the international standard which expedites export and import activities across the world creating confidence.

“Accreditation can be an important tool for conformity assessment in this supply chain process worldwide,” he added.

He said the present government is an industry-friendly government and the Industries Ministry is committed for country’s rapid industrialisation.

He said for sustainable private sector development in the country, his ministry will give policy support to the entrepreneurs.

Osama Taseer said accreditation creates confidence among the parties involved in a supply chain process.

He called for diversification of export items for a sustainable economic development.

Abdul Halim said that besides readymade garments (RMG), other sectors will also get benefits to increase export competitiveness.

“The ministry has formulated leather and SME policies and soon these policies will be placed to the cabinet meeting,” he added.

Monwarul Islam said that the World Accreditation Day is being observed in 195 countries in the world.

Accreditation is an international demand and to ensure best quality of products and services. It is an obvious instrument for export competitiveness worldwide, he added.
