UN officials praise Bangladeshi peacekeepers

DHAKA, JUNE 8, 2019 (BSS) – The officials of the United Nations (UN) have praise d the Bangladeshi peacekeepers for their sincerity, dutifulness and professional attitudes.

They expressed their commendation when Bangladesh Naval Chief Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury made an official visit to the UN head quarters on Friday, a press release issued from Bangladesh mission in New York said here today.

Admiral Auranzeb paid a courtesy call on UN under secretary general for peacekeeping operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and under secretary general for operational support Atul Khare there.

They discussed on issues related to naval activities in the mission areas and other concerned matters. Aurangzeb said that the Bangladesh Navy has been participating in the UN peacekeeping missions since long.

He underscored the necessity of increasing the participation of Bangladesh Navy in the upcoming missions, and also discussed about expansion of the human resources and allotment of newer military arms.

Earlier, on Thursday, the Navy Chief paid a visit to the UN Headquarters’ Military Adviser and Assistant Secretary-General Lieutenant General Carlos H. Loitey.

Defense advisor of Bangladesh permanent mission to UN Brigadier General Khan Firoz Ahmed and Director of Navy Headquarters (Operation) Commodore Mahmudul Malek were also present, among others, at the meeting.

However, Naval Chief Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury left Dhaka for New York on Wednesday on a 4-day official visit to the United Nations headquarters.
