Preparations afoot: 242 Eid congregations in Rangpur city

RANGPUR, June 03, 2019 (BSS) – The authorities concerned have taken
adequate preparations to hold 242 Eid-ul-Fitr congregations in the divisional
city in a festive atmosphere amid tight security measures on the Eid day.

Officials said Rangpur City Corporation with the district and Rangpur
Metropolitan Police (RpMP) administrations and other law enforcement agencies
are working to ensure peaceful holding of the Eid-ul-Fitr congregations.

“We have taken adequate security measures to hold all 242 Eid-ul-Fitr
congregations under the jurisdiction of Rangpur Metropolitan Police
peacefully,” RpMP Commissioner Abdul Mahmud told BSS today.

Assistant Director of Islamic Foundation here Md Shamsul Haque said
around 1,020 Eid-ul-Fitr congregations will be arranged at Eidgahs, mosques
and open grounds in all eight upazilas, three municipalities and Rangpur City
Corporation in the district.

Officials in the district administration said the national flag will be
hoisted atop all government and private buildings, improved diets be served
among inmates of hospitals, orphanages, jail, vagabond centres and Shishu
Paribars.

“Special munajats will be offered at all Eid congregations across the
district seeking divine blessings for continued peace, progress and
prosperity of the country, its people, Muslim Ummah and the humanity,” Deputy
Commissioner Enamul Habib said.

Rangpur City Corporation has started decorating the main streets with
the national flag and various colourful flags bearing inscriptions ‘Eid
Mubarak’ giving charming looks all around in the city.

The main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation will be held at Rangpur Collectorate
Eidgah in the divisional city at 8:30 am.

Alternatively, the main Eid-ul-Fitr jamat will be held twice at Rangpur
Court Jam-e-Mosque at 9 am and 9:30 am in the city if the weather remains
unfavourable.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Divisional Commissioner KM
Tariqul Islam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud,
Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, political leaders, public representatives,
academics and professionals are expected to participate in the main
congregation.

The first jamat of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at Rangpur Police Lines
ground at 7:45 am and, alternately, at Police Lines Jam-e-Mosque in the city
under inclement weather.

Like in the previous years, the 59th Eid-ul-Fitr congregation, biggest
one in the district, will be held at Taluk Habu Eidgah Maidan under
Gangachara upazila at 9:30 am.

In Rangpur city, major Eid-ul-Fitr congregations will be held at
Munshipara Eidgah at 8:30 am, Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque at 9:30 am, Nasirabad
Ekramia Jam-e-Mosque at 8:30 am, Kamal Kachhna Baro jam-e-Mosque at 8:45 am,
Fire Service Jam-e-Mosque at 9 am, Satmatha Jam-e-Mosque at 8:30 am, Rangpur
Medical College Central Jam-e-Mosque at 8:30 am, Burirhat Central Eidgah at 9
am, Mahiganj Shahi Jam-e-Mosque at 9 am, Aftabia Eidgah at 9 am, Central Bus
Terminal Jam-e Mosque at 9 am, RCCI School and College Ground at 8:30 am and
other Eidgahs and mosques in the city between 8 am and 9:30 am in the city.

Outside the city, bigger Eid jamats will be held at Mithapukur Central
Eidgah at 9 am, Badarganj Chandamari Central Eidgah at 10 am, Pirgachha JN
High School ground, Kawnia Central Eidgah, Taraganj Chowpathi Eidgah, Pirganj
Central Eidgah and Badarganj Central Eidgah at 8:30 am and Paikan Baro Jumma
ground at 9:30 am.

Besides, hundreds of Eid-ul-Fitr congregations will be held amid tight
security measures in the Eidgahs, mosques and grounds in rural areas of all
eight upazilas in the district.
